Secret Admirer?
February 15th, 2010 under Life · 3 Comments
Psychological Test: For every answer, describe it with three words.
1. What is your favorite color?
2. Your favorite pet?
3. Favorite city?
4. Body of water?
Interpretation (and my answers):
1. How you see yourself (serene, cool, beautiful)
2. How you think other people see you (cuddly, lovable, cute)
3. How you view the concept of love (mystical, mysterious, unreachable)
4. How you view the concept of sex (vast, comforting, warm)
I was really amused with the last one, and worried about the one before it.
It was one of the activities we did in our Oral Communication class last week. Boy, how I miss non-techie subjects. We had two teachers, who were both excellent. All in all we were asked to deliver three speeches in three days. I sure had fun.
My alcohol life is blossoming well. I always find time to turn bottles upside down even if an exam awaits the following day. For instance, when we went to the UP Fair last Thursday. Most of the time we’d end up at 3 o’clock or so, but no matter what I always strive to still come to class by 8:30. Zombie? Yes.

So, how was my Valentine this year? Nothing special as usual. I was about to watch Valentine’s Day with a college friend after dinner at Red Kimono with a roommate last night but ended up just taking mad strolls at the mall. Bad trip, I’d say. Just as when I was thinking of being a spendthrift. Today, though, was another story. After lunch, the guard at our building gave me a paper bag with a note on it. Inside was a box of chocolates and a letter. I don’t know if someone’s playing a prank on me or someone’s simply extravagant enough to buy some for me. At any rate, I’ll just enjoy these sweets.

One Hell of a Week
February 6th, 2010 under Tipsy-Turvy · 2 Comments
Monday marked the conclusion of our C++ subject and hurray — no MP (geeky term for “project”). As a commemoration, I ate out at Kyusinero ’round Kalayaan Avenue with two classmates. Buckets kept coming and soon we moved to Sangkalan at Q Ave where we karaoke~d on stage. Home @ 4:00?
As for Wednesday… Ate isaw behind the UP College of Law and proceeded to Sarah’s at Krus na Ligas. The presence of a classmate who rarely comes about triggered the lines, “Just two bottles” and “We’ll be off early.” Naturally, they were defied. We even went to Khuya’s at Cubao for good rounds of singing. Home at 4:00.
For Friday, we dined at Panciteria in Maginhawa and then tasted Pino Bar’s Margarita which eventually led to a few lights and smuggled Boy Bawang. Home at 2:00.
How do you look at me now? I’m afraid this is just the beginning of the wonders of being young…

Dragons Don’t Brush?
January 9th, 2010 under Funny Ha-ha · 5 Comments
Aboard the plane back to Manila, I read this interesting stuff on folks born on the Year of the Dragon:
You’re the emperor of the Chinese zodiac, a natural magnet for luck and leadership. But because of this, you tend to come across as very bossy. Take a seminar on humility and mix with the more timid animals, such as the goat. And don’t forget to brush your teeth.
The last sentence absolutely made me smirk.
Anyway, played Tennis today. Sucks. If only I have a playmate that is there all the time… Oh well, at least I saved ’cause the rain came.

Yet Another Year, Another List
January 5th, 2010 under Life · 3 Comments
Prowling like a tiger, I kicked of my New Year in Manila by going to the mall for two consecutive days now. Yesterday I lunched at Sbarro and snacked at Krispy Kreme while trying to make some progress for a current project. With no intentions of being a spendthrift all year ’round, today I bought a genuine (oh, yes) Nokia headset and a memory card reader flavored with a SIM card reader as well; with the latter 50 pesos more of the price I had in mind. Music will definitely keep my head banging every time I walk the streets from now. And oh, I had this conversation in one of the stores I enquired:
Me: Is this compatible with Nokia <insert model here>?
Guy: Oh, no. That’s definitely not it. It has only one earpiece. It’s for guards.
Me: (at the back of the head) The heck. So you’re telling me I was a guard before?
And because for now I’m only human, I also happen to have a list of good old resolutions. But I won’t be posting them. Instead, I’ll be rocking out with the things I did during the break.
- 20: Immediately practiced “Love Story” on piano upon arriving home
- 21: Karaoke~d with cousins using a crappy mic
- 22: Said “Hello” to a closed Badminton court
- 23: Watched Super G in PBB (!)
- 24: Met a pocketful of hometown friends after the Simbang Gabi
- 26: Got fetched by classmates on wheels, went to a neighboring town, and gulped at Caltex
- 28: New watch acquired, overnight at a friend’s (didn’t sleep at all, actually)
- 29: 1st birthday of a classmate’s daughter
- 30: Caltex (again), Alumni Homecumming
- 01: Slept all day (boring, IKR)
The holidays were very kind to me. You never know what you’ve been missing until you’ve come to reconcile with them. Avatar on iMAX tomorrow! ‘Til then.

UTI Makes Me Croak
December 18th, 2009 under Tipsy-Turvy · 2 Comments
After yesterday’s Christmas Party at school (where the exchanging of gifts became possible out of nowhere), we went to Tomas Morato to seek more entertainment. Naturally, we ended up in a videoke room. Man, how I miss disco-ing… Anyway, the liquor’s still there so the heck it’s absolutely fine. My throat was already burning hot because of hard coughing even before I started to gulp. I sang like, only two songs and the room was filled with lots’a people (yeah, surprisingly). We called it a night by four and I was already sounding like a frog by that time. Our Japanese teacher even said that I have a UTI; defined as Upper Throat Infection.
The following day I got up at 3:00 and took off for the Lantern Parade an hour later. It has already begun and just as we arrived at the oval, our institution (or whatever you call it) was nearing by. I was spotted by my fellow classmates and so we eagerly joined. It was worth the time. Watching one lantern after another didn’t bore me at all, especially when the Fine Arts studs entered the scene. Fate exhibited its cruelty on me as my battery emptied just as I was planning to take pictures ’til the end. And oh-ho-ho! The fireworks display made me realize that I can die already. Hail to the sponsors!
After watching the magnificent display I accompanied my classmate to meet her roommates. After she left, I wanted to be alone and perhaps just take a few steps away from everyone’s happy faces. But no, I still found myself mingling with my classmates and even having dinner with them. Nonetheless, the despicable melancholy was somehow lifted. We left KFC around past two. No beers for tonight, boys (which is good, since my throat spells a capital N and O haha).

A Night with College Mates
October 19th, 2009 under Down the Drain · 1 Comment
The PhilNITS exam yesterday was tough as expected. Okay, that’s all about it. On to the next topic…
Thankfully, as planned, I was able to meet up with my college friends who’re already earning. Trinoma was the meeting place. We started at Tokyo Tokyo and after rounding the mall to find some place to eat we ended up at the same place. Naturally, a picture-taking is not allowed to simply pass. The rest of us were teasing the one with the highest pay, as he uses a cellphone with no Bluetooth capability.

Goy, Uj, Tin, Duy, and I
Since I didn’t know the exact location of the place where we spent the rest of the night yet, we decided to stop by the Big Brother house in ABS-CBN. Indeed, Gerardo’s was just a few steps away. The place was crawling with people and we were stuck at a corner, directly being fumed by the the aroma coming from the kitchen. A bucket of 12 beers was not consumed as two of us barely drunk. Aside from the free pulutan, we also ate sisig. It becomes really annoying when your orders are no longer paid any attention because of too much orders, that you have to call waiters one after another.
We parted ways into 2-1-2 by midnight. In our bus there was a scene in which two guys were being pursued by one guy that when they alighted, the latter performed a gunshot signaling the two to stop. At that time I was watching curiously by the window but when the shot was made I immediately went back to my seat. Later people were talking that the guy with the gun was a cop. What’s the story (morning glory)?

I just hate being a Computer Science graduate. People would not hesitate to think twice if you’re good at what you’re supposed to be good at. And that goes to all the remaining fields of the bitchy sciences and arts out there. It’s just sad that it’s not always the case… And it happens to be the case for me.
Was my undergrad course really meant for me? WTF.

Lintik Lang Ang Walang Ganti
September 30th, 2009 under Down the Drain · 1 Comment
Just came back from ITTC, helped packed relief goods for some of the victims of the great typhoon Ondoy. I went there this morning 30 minutes before twelve, only to find the people having snacks already. For a while I felt like a fool. But soon after I was able to help work a few things out.
While we waited for lunch, we had a “Pinoy Henyo” game. The item on me was UP Diliman. I managed to guess it right on time. Compared to the others, it was relatively easy. Others included ulap, kuko, kili-kili, muta, and alipunga. The one I gave was niyog. Lunch came, and another game followed while we waited for further announcements regarding the delivery of the goods — charades. Our topic was movies. Soon we divided ourselves into two, those from Luzon and those from Visayas and Mindanao. The movie title that hit me was “Lintik Lang Ang Walang Ganti”. Since it was kind of hard, I decided to let my mates guess the middle word first. Then, I went down to the last by hitting my palm with my index finger. The motion’s “Pitik”, and I gestured that it sounds like the word. Immediately after, my efforts were paid off. Our team lost though.
Everybody was so eager to go play Basketball in Timezone in technoHUB. As for me, I was already feeling tired and sleepy (not to mention that I wasn’t able to take a bath in the morning because I slept almost six in the morning already). This has been the second time in which I missed a sort of “gathering” between us. If it’s to happen a third time, I should try to evade it.

As of this point I have successfully slaughtered a quarter and there are three more that I need to finish off so that I can walk with pride and money some time soon. Nah, the latter is actually just a part of my typical hallucination. The quarter break’s only five-day long, which gave my parents a solid reason not to let me go home. A Plan B — visit my alma mater to hit some balls ’cause it’s sports fest time, babey — didn’t work out either. Talk about being stuck with myself. I need to party.
All the grades, as promised yesterday, were not released today. In fact, only one was provided. As usual, they presented the list with only the students’ student numbers. But how the heck will it promote privacy when the list is actually still sorted alphabetically? Give me a break. Stuff in college is the same as here. Guys with last names such as mine have no escape at all. In any case, I was really hoping for a hard copy of grades, but apparently they’ll only be provided online.
So what do I have in mind for the next five days? Let’s see… play Tennis, extract PNG’s, update sites here and there, party (oh, yes), and err, study in advance? Yeah, right. Talk to the dead, mister.

Another subject down today. Only a few more and I’m out for some break. Last Monday some students were called out of the classroom for a little talk with the marketing and industry collaboration officer and I was one of them. Okay, so I was short-listed for scholarship in the company where I applied, while the other six that were called made it to the other company. Anytime this week, I’ll probably receive a notification regarding an interview…
Today, after our proctor checked my answer sheet…
Proctor: Who’s Aclan?
Me: *raises left hand*
Proctor: You didn’t apply for <Company A>?
Me: *shakes head*
I was dumbstruck after the swift conversation. What was that about? In the beginning, I only planned on proceeding to the Applications Development track. Then a classmate of mine, after knowing my undergraduate major, was surprised that I’ll be taking the specialization when I already have the background in programming and suggested that I take Embedded Systems instead. From that day on, my mind never rested on the matter. There were other indirect instances which made me think about it more and more. My classmate has a point, but based on an experience on working with hardware, I can say that I really suck at it. I never weighed things heavily then, and now I am being haunted by them.
- Company A: monthly stipend, more challenging (just another way of expressing “difficult”), perhaps cool facilities to use
- Company B: usually hires fresh grads (as stated in their company presentation), software development and not hardware, might probably give me the chance to work in Cebu (which I actually don’t want to happen)
If only I had applied to both companies in the first place…
Edit: In Japanese Business today our teacher said about him being hired in Company B. Was it a sign?

Long gone are the days of my suffering of hardcore coding in C. Man, that was really a bad time for me. Cramming coding and getting what I’ve been looking for only on the eleventh hour. I sure am glad that I eventually made it to the deadline, even though I actually lacked one program. Oh well, it was already really impossible to make it. And I was very eager to forget all about it too then. It was a Friday and it meant getting some fresh air from the mall.
The time has once again come where I no longer feel like posting anything in this almost-forgotten blog. But hey! I just can’t let this thing die, can I? After all, I’m paying the crap out of this place. Besides, life is always very, very interesting… Last week, you ask? Well, I was extremely excited about going to the mall for the three-day sale. Sadly, I was locked up from my room and money was the only matter that helped me survive. Of course, it’s also all thanks to my boardmates who allowed me to sleep in their room. Last night we went out and had pizza for dinner. I was excited for a few shots but the place was crawling with people so we merely bought a bottle at 7/11 and brought it home. After finishing it we decided to buy something to eat and do some sighting in the Sunken Garden. Unfortunately, one of us lost his (Havaianas) slipper so we had to retreat early. Two more bottles from a different convenient store was added to the night’s list. Walking home, I shattered a bottle, and finished the other one before arriving at our house. Too much alcoholism or what?
Watashi wa kinou tomodachi to Katipunan de bangohan o tabemashita.
Our current topic in class is Database Systems. Normalizing tables are a pain in the neck. Our teacher was the proctor when I took the entrance exam. Upon knowing which school I was from, he approached me and we were able to talk. He also told me that another classmate actually happens to be a schoolmate of mine. At the end of Friday’s class the three of us talked for a while and a classmate said that the way we speak is just too fast for him. Hah, it is so damn cool to be multilingual, ne?

Once upon a yesterday, the rain was keeping me wet as I was walking down the highway going home. A car passed and poof! My pants were wetter than the rest of my body. Now, what.
- First, I could’ve summoned my telekinetic abilities and turn the car upside down in midair.
- Second, I could’ve shouted at the car going away like some mad man who escaped the mental hospital.
- Third, I could’ve merely sighed, for being able to experience it like that in the movies.
Because cats and dogs were constantly flirting with each other on everyone’s roof today, our classes were suspended in the afternoon. I took the chance to go to the cinemas to watch the Half-Blood Prince. By the end of the movie, I met six classmates who were sitting just above me.

Over the past weeks I have met a number of people I originally met during my undergrad years. The first one was a Math faculty who resigned from school and is currently taking up his MS. Then there was another one I met just last week — one of my teachers in Calculus. She’s taking a wicked PhD. Third on the list was my dormmaate when I was a freshman. I couldn’t believe it took her time (and even had to listen to me speak about our place first) to recognize me. The last on the list was a Social Sciences and Philosophy faculty whom I’ve never talked to at school. I, together with two dormmates currently reviewing for their board exam, was on the same jeepney with him after attending the mass. I’ve been told there are still more around the area where I’m at right now. If the world continues to contract, then for sure someone will be waving at me or suddenly talk to me while I’m staring into nothingness worrying about exams and projects in the coming days.
Feeling pumped up at school lately have become a good reason for me not to stop my daily intake of oxygen. First, it turns out that there are three of us who are Cebuano-speaking in class. Second, I’ve finally been to technoHUB, and I got aroused of the idea of working in such a cloudless turf. Third, despite that a project’s been with us for about a week now, things seem to continue going well with my groupmates. Just earlier tonight we ordered food from Jollibee to be delivered at school while we were working overtime. Guess what. The guy who made the delivery is also from Mindanao. I might be considered nuts, but I’ve always adored the idea of meeting people (in a place where they’re not supposed to be…something like that) that knows how to speak the language/s that I can deliver or comprehend. Finally, I got to watch “Meet the Robinsons” at last. See it and make your judgment.
Around here, however, we don’t look backwards for very long. We keep moving forward, opening up new doors and doing new things, because we’re curious… And curiousity keeps leading us down new paths.

The past week has been very different. Firstly, I was always able to get up before my alarm clock hits its bells noisily at 7:00. My classes were very fast-paced that if I didn’t learned some of them in my undergrad years I would’ve been totally left out. The thing that solely did not change could be my laziness. Yeah, I still need to work out a lot of it. In fact, I didn’t submit our last assignment today, as I thought that the questions were just for self-practice. Our first and final exam for our first subject was also today. I’m not confident that I’ll get a 75%, which is the one required to pass. Since I feel bothered and light at the same time, I decided to take a little walk at the mall to see if I could sort things out and perhaps buy some things.
I went to Oxygen and looked for good shirts (all of them are, anyway). My size wasn’t there so I tried another branch. But then I couldn’t find it easily in the mall across the street. As I stopped by Fully Booked to look for the X-Men Encyclopedia I was very interested in, I received a call that I have to get home because the money needs to be collected (which was left to me by my roommates). I guess that’d be all there is to it. Unwinding, yeah, right.

Where in the world have I been lately anyway? After graduation, what’s going to happen to moi?
Actually, I’ve decided to go to school for one more year. I’m in Manila right now. Classes are supposed to already start tomorrow but due to the rain and the infamous A(H1N1), classes have been moved to the 15th. However, I am not certain if my classes are affected. I no longer consider myself a “regular” student after all. Anyways, I’ve been here for weeks already. I’ve already found a boarding house just a ride away from school. My roommates don’t seem to like me that much though (as much as I don’t like talking to them). See, they’ve been roommates for a year already. Cool, huh. Being left out, you can say that again. For days all I’ve been doing is sleep, eat, download a movie, go visit my relatives, or perhaps buy something at the stupid mall. The other day I even lost two thousand pesos. Life sure is hard around here… I can’t help but think how nice it would’ve been if I went home. I could’ve spend more days there especially now that the opening of classes have been allegedly moved. I just stayed at home for less than a week and then left again for school, you know.
It’s a good thing I have some high school classmates around. Classes haven’t started yet so we still have plenty of time to walk ’round. Yesterday I went to Trinoma with two of them and a schoolmate. All of them haven’t watched Angels & Demons yet, leaving me no choice but to watch it again. When we got out of the cinema we saw some of the Big Brother (Teen Edition) housemates of the last season. I think it would’ve been nice if we took a picture with them. They do all look good in person than in TV. After it we went home, had pizza and tuna for dinner, and settled down at my place. Right now, two of them are still in there, with no plans of getting up at all, it seems. And I’m starting to get irritated because of it…
In any case, I’ll try to be back here and do a post as often as I used to be.

Buying the Correct iPod
May 12th, 2009 under Down the Drain · 1 Comment
Music has evolved into many forms over the years. Together with it is the enhancement of convenient access to various multimedia. Music is a part of a person’s life that it adds spice and color to daily living. In times when we do nothing in particular, say, waiting for someone or walking on the street, we find listening to some music helpful. It not only kills boredom, but it also heightens your mood in a way. But what good product out there is good to use? How will you choose if it’s the right one for you?
In the past, there were CD players and Walkmans. They were enough then, but if you think about it, they were kind of bulky. Today, we have them in more miniature forms. If before we have to bring bags with them, today, one’s pocket is enough. We can speak greatly of the iPod, which has become outrageously popular. They come in many types bringing different functions. They bring forth convenience in playing and selecting your favorite multimedia primarily music. Truly, humming while walking has never been the same as it was before.
If you’re in for buying an iPod of your own, make sure you know what you’re looking for. For sure, they have it already ready for you.

The last days of my stay at the university were spent on the completion of my college and university clearances, paying graduation fees, witnessing accidents, buying clothes for the baccalaureate mass and commencement exercises, finalizing the packing of all my things, and riding on my classmates’ cars.
I am now 21 and that makes me more legal…right? This fuck fact makes me wanna do more things. Then again, I still have many other things to accomplish first too. Anyway, as you can see in the pictures, I finally made it to graduation and is now having my second excursion in Boracay.
Our graduation was quite remarkable as it was wet due to the unpredictable weather and open venue. We had to transfer to the auditorium and the chancellor, as the guest speaker, had to cut her speech and decided to have it printed for all of us instead. The whole event seemed to last for only a few seconds. Many were saying they didn’t even see themselves wanting to cry…
At any rate, I still haven’t put up much attention to this blog ever since I transferred to a new host. If I can settle even just for a bit, I’ll surely clear things up.

Chancellor’s Park
February 5th, 2009 under Down the Drain · No Comments
Yesterday we took the Psychological Test for graduating students. It was surprising that I awoke early despite having gone out the other night. The first one gave me the feeling of an easy entrance exam. Correct grammar and abstract reasoning were primarily on it. Forty minutes was the time limit but I absentmindedly timed myself an hour and ten minutes so I ended up with a number of unattended questions. We were given a three-minute break before proceeding to the second one which was composed of 185 items (mostly subjective questions).
We left school a little past four, bought a few Filipino delicacies from “Gurrl”, walked home, and stopped by the so-called Chancellor’s Park. I had a good little chatter with four of my classmates about our elementary memories and experiences. The moment was serene.

Post-graduation Entrance Exams

Say, I finally made myself a little busy these past few days. November’s halfway through and this is only my first post for the month.

Took the Procter & Gamble entrance (whatsoever) exam. It was an hour and five minutes-long test which consisted of only 40 items divided into Math, Business Logic, and Abstract. To think that the number of items is only small is such a simple task. However, the time allotted was still not enough for it. The second part is just too time-consuming. Luckily, as the results came out after only an hour, I found out that I passed. For now all that’s left is to wait for the results of the online assessment test which we did the following day.
The jeepney we were riding on our way to the city that day almost crashed or something. The driver was maneuvering it too fast that when he suddenly stepped on the brake a disturbing screeching sound was all over the place and we were all dragged towards his direction and moments after the smell of rubber entered our senses. Talk about Final Destination, if it pleases you, my friend. I actually thought that someone was hit.
Anyway, after hearing the good news after having lunch at the nearest Jollibee, we went to the movies and watched “Eagle Eye”. It’s an amazing movie and I recommend it to everyone.

Round 2 of An “Antique” Fiesta but this time we did a sleepover. We arrived at the place late in the afternoon and after dinner went to the fair (perya), our other classmate’s house, and finally to the barangay “‘auditorium” (yes, that’s how they coolly call the place where programs are held). Although it was pretty awkward to join in the disco because of the bright lights and, err, obsolete music, I just had no choice but to have fun like the others. We went home at around two in the morning after a fight between two guys was brought up. I was waken up at five early in the morning because of a band apparently rounding the place. I later knew that it’s a tradition of some sort and that it serves the purpose of waking the people up. Well, it surely accomplished its mission on me.

The CSC Professional Level exam was tougher than the Subprofessional which I took last year. After going out of the classroom I was like, “What did just happen?” There is absolutely no way that I’ll pass that exam! I still had a hard time doing some of the Math items and the vocabulary part was just too alien.

“Pangarap Ko Ang Ibigin Ka”
October 31st, 2008 under Down the Drain · 6 Comments

I wasn’t able to watch “Three Dads and One Mom” in ABS-CBN tonight because my sister arrived from work and I found myself busy accommodating her browsing some music in the laptop and watching our niece sing and dance. As a sort of compensation, I once again browsed the Internet about the series. I stumbled upon Eugene’s (who plays Lisette, the lead female character) Wikipedia page and, to my great surprise, saw a Tagalog title (the title of this post) in her Filmography. It’s scheduled in 2009 and will be produced by Double Vision. I cannot deny the fact that it got me excited, given that Eugene is such a pretty girl. Who could his leading man be? It couldn’t be Jericho Rosales (who’s already made it to Malaysia with Carmen Soo) again, right?
We will have to cross our fingers for this one!
I’ll also show you a sweet dream next night ▼
I was in my parents’ office today abusing the Internet connection for the first time with my laptop. (I just had to ditch playing Badminton with my good old classmates. Besides, they proceeded to the court without even initially telling me.) I grew up in this office where the people would have fun and play silly jokes most of the time, in which my parents would laugh and also participate. Today, I stayed past five because Mama was finishing printing reports. We stayed a little bit longer by the front door when it was finally already about time to go home. An semi-drunk employee whom I’ve known since I can remember was telling his tale. A young man at 17 then made the big difference. If it weren’t for it, “We wouldn’t have met,” he interrupts… The story, without a doubt, hit me.

Virus from Surigao
October 22nd, 2008 under Down the Drain · 13 Comments
Oh my fucking god, what the fuck!? I have become too reckless of viruses that now I finally learned my ultimate lesson. After double-clicking the USB drive icon I noticed that it did not move and so I gave it two more clicks. Moments after, Kaspersky came in running saying of a virus. I opened the command prompt and found out that it was already disabled. I restarted my computer, hopeful enough, but what did I get? A fucking message that I did not understand and bother to read. Then, it turns out that regedit.exe and the Task Manager has also been disabled. Now, what.

Upon examining the message the pops up before the password input on start up, I realized that it was English written indistinctly. What blazed me up more is the fact that it mentioned Surigao, a place just a few hours from my hometown San Francisco in Agusan del Sur. I am certain about this. There’s absolutely no doubt that it was a Filipino who made this — a Filipino who particularly speaks the same language as I do. The most disheartening part is that answers on how to resolve this nuisance don’t seem to be available on the Internet yet. Am I the lucky #1 to have tasted it then? All right, this gives me a more bigger drive to make my own wreckage in the future. Oh, you just all wait. I am gonna completely destroy not only your Task Managers, but also your electric sockets.

Womanizer: Nelson’s vlog

“Disturbia” by Rihanna
A classmate of mine loves this song too much. She told me about its music video and after watching it I was actually some sort of…disturbed?
The totality of the song is, in fact, good for me as well. [Twitter]
“Leavin’” by Jesse McCartney
Okay, I like this song. But after seeing this video I now undeniably like it more! FTW! [Twitter]
“Womanizer” by Britney Spears
Firstly, a new word’s just been added to my vocabulary.
I highly suggest this video to everyone. Britney’s become more gorgeous as if she’s gotten younger and never became bald and gave birth!
Alright, so this has been my first vlog or the so-called video blog (courtesy of nothing else but YouTube)? Is that it?

CD-R King is Crap

No Filipino who’s inclined to using a computer that much would not know the store which sells the cheapest CD’s and gadgets in town. But haven’t you ever thought how ironic it is that they stick to manually writing their receipts which lead to the extremely long queues of customers most of the time? (sigh) Today I bought a laptop backpack and was lucky enough to be able to get it after heading straight at the end after going through a lot of waiting customers in the narrow and only path. And the salesladies? Well, they even have time to chitchat and laugh when all the customers are already about to bite their heads off. But what can we do. Maybe that’s their rule of thumb.
While I was waiting for my purchase to arrive at the lady who does the manual receipts, I heard the people in the mall’s activity area cheer and a guy’s cool voice was soon heard singing. I later found out that it was Hansen “Sen” Nichols of Pinoy Dream Academy Season 2. As expected from a celebrity, he’s got the looks and a very good complexion. I don’t know, but at some point he looked like a gay? After fetching some photos I found out that he was about to leave via the only elevator of the mall. The people on the ground floor (that includes me) looked up at it as it headed off to the third floor and then came back to the second floor after seeing that people has also rushed to the third floor. Cool. I guess being a celebrity is really hard when it comes to fans. Aside from that, it gave me the idea of how exciting it can be at the same time. As I exited the mall I saw the entrance to Ted’s Batchoy blocked by many security guards. As I walked outside and looked at the glass, Mr. Nichols was there together with his personal assistants (maybe) having a meal. Now how ’bout that.

The exam in Automata today was detestable. I was not able to make the appropriate pushdown automaton of the language {anbn+mcm | n, m > 0}. The heck. And when I think about, I even made an error in the first item which was worth 30 points. Argh! I’ve had so much of those epsilons-productions! On a happier note, I just got interviewed for next semester’s application in the dorm. Now that I’m finally graduating, I seated myself comfortably in front of our dorm manager and interacted as enthusiastically as I could. I was glad to hear that for the record I haven’t had a “Gentle Reminder” (a form issued after doing a prohibited act) and complaints from the staffs. (I was actually expecting some though.)

The Egg of Dreams
October 2nd, 2008 under Down the Drain · 8 Comments
Due to the tricycle drivers that always wait for passengers to fill in, I was late in my Literature class today. Afar below the school building, I looked up at our room and deduced that a quiz was being conducted. I was only moments from the door when I saw our teacher closing it. He saw me and smirked before fully closing it. The next thing that happened was I was pulling the door against his grasp.
After the quiz about the story “In a Grove”, which WikiPedia shortly described as a story where every character says at least one thing that is refuted by another , we rearranged our seats to form a circle. We were instructed to write an opening line—sentence(s) or phrase—of any story. It was passed to the person on the right one after another until it eventually goes back to the owner with an end and a title. Our teachers read out three stories and it was plainly hilarious. Talk about absolute randomness and a few grammatical tweaks!
Long before the egg turned into a chick1. Then the chick died. I was glad there was a different egg [...] When I awoke I was a lion. I saw Simba. He was so cute and I started to like him but I was not his type. He was in love with “Lala,” the panda. [...] the egg hatched and I saw a wonderful lady. What a hot chick!

A: What have you come for?
B: Where is Elsa?
A: Dead. You know that.
B: You killed her.
A: I did not kill Elsa.
B: Oh yes you did. She was young and helpless, just like you. And she died slowly and painfully something like this.

4 + 1 Years & Counting…

I planned to put up “something” today because it’s been exactly a year since I started using WordPress. Furthermore, it’s now 4 years and 12 days old of blogging for me.
But because I just came from mIRC, a seminar-workshop on microcontrollers which was really worth my registration and time, I failed to do so. As a sort of compensation, I’ll simply post my very first post which I fetched from Reminiscences.
September 13, 2004, Monday
My classmate Kharen is celebrating her 16th birthday today. Yey! She celebrated in a bakeshop in our locality and almost all my classmates and me myself attended with nothing else to do – but EAT! Haha! I ate a lot and sweat was really dripping all over my face even though the room was airconditioned that I had to get a tissue to wipe myself. Most of my classmates were really amused and laughing. :P
Reading back old entries and seeing how you’ve grown in terms of writing is something that is fascinating. As for the commemoration of my first year of surviving WordPress, I’ll merely plug my first layout whose screenshot can be found in the About page. “Infinite Fortress” is only my second. I still don’t tend to code WordPress layouts that much as I still find them messy.

School Blitzkrieg
September 24th, 2008 under Down the Drain · 2 Comments
I just got all my subjects pre-enlisted for next (which would hopefully be my last) semester. I’m kind of spiced up as our prospectus dictates us with only 16 units — the smallest I’ll be taking since stepping into college. I hope this would be an opportunity for me to get decent sleeps and gain even just a little bit of weight. Osu!
We had our second exam in Computer Architecture today and it was like, “WTF?” I learned of bonus items that our teacher pointed out yesterday when I was already in our classroom with the exam about to start! My roommate who’s my classmate didn’t dare tell me about it. My classmates were then teasing him about it. Hmm, if perfidy is what he wants, then maybe I shouldn’t play against the wind.
It’s not entirely his fault though, as I declared a personal holiday yesterday by not attending any of my classes. In AI I really did not intend to attend because I was not able to search anything about Wumpus World Agents and that would surely agitate our teacher. Going back further, the reason of me not being able to find something about the said topic was because the night before there was a Victory Party of our academic group Elektrons. I would have been more happier if the disco started earlier and there were more “juice” to drink. I ate a lot that day because it was also the town fiesta. I went to the house of the dorm staff who have visitors from the dorm every year.
Back to school rambling. In World Literature we didn’t finishing discussing the drama “The Cherry Orchard” yet. Our teacher asked some of us to stand and read lines from the story and he included me on the list. He spoke out loud lines that suggest action such as (Kisses her) for me.
Sir: Ano ang drama ni Anya sa Cherry Orchard nga ‘ni? (What’s Anya’s sentiment in this Cherry Orchard?)
Classmate: Sir, tulog si Anya. (Sir, she was asleep that time.)
Sir: Ah huo, kinapoy ang buangit. (Ah yes, the silly girl got tired.)
Our teacher sounded as if he knows the character Anya in person.

Skipping Reading
September 18th, 2008 under Down the Drain · No Comments
I skipped World Literature today because I wasn’t able to read the drama piece to be discussed — “The Glass Menagerie” by Tennessee Williams. I think it was a confusing read. I only relied on soft copy from the Internet which has typos and indention that made it irksome to read, that’s why. I gave up reading it in the end. Before it I finished reading “Death of a Salesman” by Arthur Miller. Again, the copy was not that good. Not to mention how long it was! It’s sad, but it seems that I’ve lost the hang of reading. Come to think of it, I haven’t read a single book (those Harry Potter types) for ages. (sigh) I knew from my classmate that they had a fun discussion by re-enacting some of the scenes where our teacher (who happens to be male) took part as the character Amanda and the female and male students as her children Laura and Tom, respectively. According to my classmate, Amanda had to make the boys repeat some of their lines over and over again (over a scene where dialogues among characters were overlapping) because they were so lame but one. Neat, I would have laughed my heart out there.
My Tennis racket’s head cracked again. That’s the second time in one year. It’s really no wonder as both of them were only handed down and lent to me. But why? What must I do to prevent such a thing to happen? Could it be a sign that I should already retire from playing the sport at this young age? Not a chance, I guess. I’m still grateful that at least it didn’t crack during the sportsfest. I played with my partner this afternoon (using a borrowed racket) and guess what, after me telling him what happened, he noticed that his racket already has a crack and poof! It eventually cracked like mine. I finally saw our trophy after not attending the awarding ceremonies then (Mama scolded me for doing so). My partner brought it on court upon my request. Say simple but see cool. I’ll post pictures later… ‘Ve Been playing Pokemon Pearl by the way. Still as exciting as the other versions. The graphics are, of course, way better than the first ones.

This is stupid, I still haven’t got any interest with my academics. Our teacher in two major subjects just left the country which makes life more light and idle. I don’t know his exact comeback but his mere absence is something that I didn’t really want. Help.

Pahampang 2008: Game Over?
September 13th, 2008 under Down the Drain · 4 Comments
I came back from Manila last Tuesday night and the trip in general (particularly arrival in Manila and back in Iloilo) was a complete disaster. I lost my watch and the food I brought for my roommates and my high school classmate’s letter and memorabilia for his sister who’s a freshman in my college. The following day held the grand cheering competition. Our group ranked 4th and their concept of “old people” was a good one to me. The ordering was led by the Skimmers (Kung Fu fighters) followed by the SoTech (whose concept was pretty vague and confusing) and, lastly, the Clovers (dissected organisms). During that day our Lawn Tennis women got eliminated. By Thursday we had our first defeat in Tennis against the Scions (last year’s champion) where I played against their dexterous player. Score was 1-6. At least he gives off some mercy now. It was still the IT Week in Iloilo and we assisted in the very first computerized database-powered IT quiz later that day. It didn’t work out at first but eventually got on track. It was fun, difficult, and tiresome, y’know! The boundless possibilities of mastering PHP and MySQL has somehow become crystal to me now.
Friday (yesterday, that is) was the day for the semis and finals of Lawn Tennis. We lost to Ugyon putting us on the 3rd position. They then no longer played another game immediately giving the win to the twice-to-be-beaten Scions. Imagine that? I had to rush from one venue to another because Badminton was also ongoing. I was the first singles player and I did not win any game.
WTH. Oxygen is my ultimate enemy in every sport. But knowing that my opponents also feel tired from playing and that my score is not that low to be worth some shame would already be enough for me. At the end of the day, our standing was 1-1 (one loss, one win). The Literary Musical (Litmus) activity took place at night and the Elektrons (that’s us) got some descent places in the ranking. Our modern dance was grool — as in great + cool — yet it only ranked 4th. Our career in Badminton ended today. I was the second singles this time and I scored 26 against 30. Again, it was Ugyon who beat me.
I felt glad thinking that the audience might have possibly had fun watching us as I was hearing claps behind me every time I get a point when my teammates are on the other side. Furthermore, that my first opponent yesterday was even there to support our team and giving me advices on where to make the cock fly. Still, I realized what should have been done only when the opponent was about to win.
I really am excited on how the Elektrons will do this year against the Clovers, Fisheries, Magnates, Redbolts, Scions, Skimmers, SoTech, Tycoons, and Ugyon. In less than 2 hours I shall know. I hope this will be it. Edit: I forgot to say that my whole body aches. I can hardly stand from sitting.

Last Day
August 31st, 2008 under Down the Drain · 2 Comments
Today marks the last day of eliminations for this year’s sportsfest. We managed to top our bracket (which means that we move on to the semis) in Tennis but the girls had their first loss. It was a very, very close fight. Both of them in singles scored 5-7. It was somewhat heartbreaking yet that’s it. Shit happens. It happened. The good part is, they’re not yet eliminated, so they still have a chance to make it somewhere in the Top 3. On a different sport, I can almost not believe that our Basketball team lost for the second time. It’s “eliminated” for them. Their first loss was during last week’s first set of elims in which they scored only 2 points behind that of the Fisheries team. This time, I heard that it was only 5 or 6 points against the Scions. The sad part? Well, they just happened to be the champion last year — and they were twice-to-beat! Oh, well. Change happens.
I went to the church today after a series of Sundays without doing so. I have to thank Someone for all the happy things (even though I am no longer capable of remembering all of ‘em this instant) that’s been lately. I surpassed exams, won my games, acquired new belongings, and had the opportunity of attending an IT congress for the second time. I sat beside Sahara (a friend who’s a BS Economics student) and it was interesting on how she were asking things which related to the homily… I had 3 cups of rice and Adobong baboy and fried chicken for dinner. Heavy, huh. We won’t be having a class in our Computer Graphics (animation using Blender) subject tomorrow so that leaves only our exam in World Literature for for certain we won’t meet in our Systems Analysis subject in the afternoon because we have to be on the airport for our flight at 17:00 o’clock. It’s gonna be bye-bye school for a week starting tomorrow.
A few lines by Jeff Lew:
“C’mon. We’re animators. We’re not supposed to be smart.”

New Footwears!
August 29th, 2008 under Down the Drain · 3 Comments
For the first time (sounds like a movie starring KC Concepcion and Richard Gutierrez to me lol) since I stepped into college, I finally bought a brand new pair of shoes. Oh, yeah! I AM LOVING IT SO MUCH.
I didn’t actually plan on buying one today for I was to only get a new haircut at the good old salon that makes me happy and buy new slippers that will hopefully satisfy my sweaty feet until I realized how poor-looking my shoes really are already that one more wash and it’ll definitely come to its end. (Wait, that makes me remember that this is already my second pair of shoes in college. Teehee) I currently have three sneakers and they’re all the same — very tampered, open to water penetration, and no longer fully reliable when engaging in sports. When Mama surprisingly approved my request of buying one, I did not hesitate to look up for one that suits me well and with an affordable price. In the end, I decided on a black slip on Skechers (something like the one below). This’ll be my first time using such type of shoes and brand. I wish a long life for this pair.
And oh, the slippers I bought are the so called Havaianas. It’s colored brown with prints of the brand name letter h all over. Do I count myself in now?
I’mma post pictures of these two for sure. Soon.

You might be wandering why I’m having all these new haircut and slippers and shoes. Well it’s because for the upcoming Philippine Youth Congress in Information Technology in UP Diliman this year. Obviously, it’s not an event that truly requires grooming. I’m just seeing the fact that I’m not from Manila and I barely even go there. Everybody does such thing, right? (If you’re a Filipino and you’ll disagree with me, I’ll hunt you down anywhere you wish to go.) I’ll be leaving by Monday afternoon and will stay there for a week. To my online buds, would you mind an eyeball (I just love this word)? I haven’t tried it yet though.
There are still many things I’d love to blog about and hopefully they’ll be all up next time. ‘Til then!
Edit: Check this out. What do you see in the title again?
It’s thanks to Euri who was the one who initially told me about the tutorial. Glad to be of help to others.

When I first saw one last April (22 to be exact — Earth Day), I instantly decided to start collecting. With that, I occasionally always stop by Google each time I get connected.

Litmus and Today’s Horoscope
August 20th, 2008 under Down the Drain · 5 Comments
This is a good day to make improvements to where you live, especially to areas connected with plumbing—bathrooms, laundry places and such. You see how to fix something.
For more than a day, I had some laundries soaked in Ariel, a detergent. This morning, since I already bought a cloth conditioner (Downy), I finally had the guts to rinse them. To my surprise, they were cleaner than what I expected. Really, no more visible stains. I guess not all commercials are liars after all. So to all Filipinos out there, start using Ariel now and rinse ‘em all the way! Hehe.

Anyway, as usual, many things have gone lately. Last Tuesday I rallied with Neil (a player from the Redbolts team) in Tennis and we hit each other’s balls (
why does it sound like a different subject to me
) like there was no tomorrow. Actually, it was just my second time rallying with him, for I did not even played singles against him during last year’s sportsfest. Now things are seemingly hot. New players have sprouted and old ones have already blossomed. I am obviously excited and nervous for this year’s sportsfest which will start three days from now! On other news, last night was our academic group’s Mini-Litmus in preparation for the (main) Litmus of the upcoming sportsfest. Like the games Basketball, Volleyball, Football, Softball, and Cheering, it’s considered a major activity which means that its corresponding points are higher compared to that of the others. Litmus stands for “Literary-Musical” and is composed of competitions in Vocal Solo, A capella, Poetry in Motion, and Modern Dance. For last night’s activity, the competition was between batches, and the batch that won’t be able to present in an event would have to pay an amount of 300 pesos. The venue was the CFOS-AVR so it was totally something new. Our batch, specifically course, was in charge of the stage and everything (I was on the music baby! Tehe). There were only a few seniors at first and it was so heartlifting how they thought of doing standing ovations every time the representative from our batch finishes.
The night was truly hilarous especially for the case of our batch because some were merely literally pulled to perform on the spot particularly on dancing. Woot~! Many faculty members came as judges this time. It was a night to be absolutely remembered.
I played at the Tennis court twice today — early in the morning and afternoon — and the policeman whom Neil occasionally plays with was present on both. He tells his tales of apparently going on nightouts and watching John Lloyd Cruz movies and other interestingly funny stuff. Ah, been talking so much already. Enough is enough. Before ending this post, the image above is a representation of what I felt as I was about to lose a set to Jetson (my teammate). Score ended in 4-6 after going straight to 1-5. Still good, but not yet good enough.

Goodbye Tags!
August 15th, 2008 under Down the Drain · 13 Comments
And so I did it. I finally deleted all the tags I accumulated in this blog ever since I started using WordPress as a CMS last September. They seem to have become a mess and I’m starting to dislike seeing them again and again. I “tweeted” about the importance of such tags last month and surprisingly got a reply from someone.
Yes, they are used for SEO and can help with navigation. You can use your tags in tag clouds which shows at a glace which subject your write more about. You can have more of them without having to organization mess that occurs if you do the same with category. You don’t have to keep track of them
I’m actually quite familiar that tags are helpful for SEO. But do I really need to require myself to use them? No. I even asked Euri if she uses them and she told me that she’s not — that her list of tags in the database is completely empty — because her blog is a personal one. She’s right. This one that I have is also personal and I write almost anything under the sun in this turf. I think her statement was one of the factors that finally provoked me to delete 600+ tags. I have to say that I somehow feel light right now. Even so, I do hope to own a different blog/site someday which is targeted to a bigger audience and will definitely need some serious tagging.

Forbidden No More
August 11th, 2008 under Down the Drain · 2 Comments
For the past weeks/days/month I have suffered from “Forbidden” error messages all throughout my domain initially in the subdomains of my hostees and then to various folders. It bothered me a whole lot and it was so frustrating searching for appropriate answers. Even my host couldn’t tell me directly but they did pointed out that it has to do with .htaccess files. Since I did messed with such files before, focusing on it would be the intelligent thing to do. With the old backup I have in my local drive I looked for differences in the said files with those that are currently residing in my (web) folders. It fatefully came to me that I did enabled HotLinking Protection (disabling direct linking, that is, enabling only select websites to access certain files externally) for all files instead of just images. So, basically, what happened was, when any of the sites/folders under my domain is accessed via a different webpage, an error is thrown because HTML and PHP files have been included in the blockage (I suppose), whereas when you input the URL in the address bar and hit enter, the page loads smoothly (though there are cases that a refresh of the page helps). This is another lesson learned and I think I really have to set up a small blog for such issues now.
To Rashid, Sae, and Shan, my apologies for this very delayed fix. And to all those who thought that the site has already been buried six feet under, well, think again.

The Etymology (Origin) of “Heck”
August 5th, 2008 under Down the Drain · 10 Comments
I want to say WTH but it’s become a cliché for me so I’ll state my theory on how the word came into being instead. As you ought to know, people in the English-speaking community have this expression, what the. More specifically, there’s what the hell and what the fuck. The way I absorb it, what the heck originated from the two — “he” from hell and “ck” from fuck. Perhaps the main reason that the word, or should I say the whole expression, was brought up is for it to become more acceptable and neutral (whatever). With all honesty, I haven’t read anything about this yet. I actually kind of firmly believe that my guess is true.
. . .
In my previous post I was talking about getting too much excited about Friday. Now, I don’t think I’ll ever be wishing for that day to come again. Haha. Last Friday was the worst session we had. It finally convinced me that there really is such thing as a drunk person and not being able to remember everything (or anything at all!) the following day. The dorm staff that night even had to check up on me. Luckily, we were still not summoned by the dorm manager to discuss it. We didn’t do any damage to the dorm nor to any resident after all. The only thing that I’m regretting about is the fact that I lost my ATM cards that night. I have no idea how it got away out of my pocket. Now, I am absolutely broke. I badly need a big amount of money especially for the coming Y4iT — registration fee and transportation fare — this September in UP Diliman. Somebody, help me! If I need to resort to prostitution then I’d be very glad to.

We had no single class today. I got totally awakened at 8:30 when I heard my roommate/classmate calling me as he was about to leave for school. I slept at 4:00 doing the character sketches (and watching animé episodes Itazura na Kiss 16 & Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu 01) for our animation subject. Of course, I decided to take a few more minutes to rest obviously planning on being late or absenting. When I arrived at school, as usual, our teacher didn’t attend to us. There was no electricity in the building. In World Literature (Lit2) our teacher was sick while in the afternoon our teacher didn’t have a class because of being overwhelmed by the fact that the new college dean is from our division. So basically that’s it. We walked back to the dorm twice today — something that doesn’t happen often.
Anyway, tomorrow’s another Friday. When we met Joefer on the road upon arriving at the dorm area this afternoon, I shouted at him, “Joef! It’s Friday tomorrow!” And he replied, “Korak! (Correct!)” I can no longer wait!

I want to say a whole lot of things that’s happened to me for the past two weeks but I don’t feel like doing so not because there’s just too many of them but because I’ve always believed that some things are better left unsaid. In only two words, it’s alcohol and frustration.

Our university is having its 61st Foundation Week and today is set for the annual street painting competition. Upon waking up at 7:30 because of my noisy roommates (hehe) and noticing the hostile weather, I did not hesitate to go back to sleep. Midday was about to strike when I awoke next. My roommate (who’s a University Student Council meaning that he’s one of the busiest folks this week) came in and told me that I missed all the fun. The point that is missing here is that, I didn’t absolutely know that today also holds the Larong Pinoy (Filipino folk games)! Drat, even though I may eventually forget all about it, I could have had fun even just watching. I heard the chancellor and dean of our college also played. Argh! My self-discipline is really such a mess. I need to start always getting up at 7:30 if it’s the last thing I must do here on earth!
I had lunch with my dormmates Eunice and Jennifer and then headed to the school pathwalk, where the street painting was held because of the rain. Supposedly, it would be on the road by the dorm area. I bought a bath soap in the cooperative and took a stroll to look at everything. The first spot was owned by our dorm and it was already done. Plain and neat with the line, “Pa-Omp’s ta!” Genguken, the animé club I’m in, was the second one I noticed. They drew such cute chibis. Then, one after another, I looked at the Elektrons, UP Akeanon, komsai.org, and UP Tubao. When I came back to the dorm I was still able to bring “painted” hands. Yet, I still feel unsatisfied.

Gatecrash and Fahrenheit

Redbolts, the academic group that compose six courses in the college where I belong, is notorious for having its acquaintance party in the covered court every year. After a series of acquaintance parties — Tubong Mindanao (Tubao) and Balay Gumamela a.k.a. GD (Dorm) — that I have been through so far in my last year (hopefully) of schooling, I have had the strong willpower of conducting a gatecrash in this lot. Together with my other plans, I need to make the best out of this year! Hehe. And so, last Friday, after going to the College of Fisheries’ party, I, together with my party comrade Lairy, went straight to the court after a quick session at Omp’s Corner. It was already midnight when we made our way in the already-vulnerable gate. Roxanne, our classmate who shifted to a “Redbolts course”, greeted me. In a flash, the scene during the disco at the dorm happened again. Spending the remaining hours until the next opening of the dorms (@5:30) in the bakery in town wasn’t that easy, especially when other people are LOL-ing in the brink of dawn. Another mission accomplished. N (where N is a positive integer) still remains.

If you’re a Filipino currently residing in the Philippines like me, then I think you must’ve also heard about the Wu Chun (bottom right) and Calvin Chen (top right) mania. I first became quite familiar of this Wu Chun when my classmate would always skip playing balls to watch Hana Kimi. Also, because of another series that goes by the title “Romantic Princess”. Ultimately, they’ve come to visit the country. As I watch the two Taiwanese from the band Fahrenheit on TV, I couldn’t help but reminisce the F4 days. Really. It was summer and I was an incoming sophomore high school when they hit the screens and captured the hearts of everyone. The sight of Chun and Calvin singing one of their songs also reminds me of how the music of F4 conquered the local music charts for months even though without the lyric subtitles, it totally couldn’t be understood. Hearing the two speak quite some good English was another interesting thing. I have always believed that if you are a celebrity then you should at least be able to speak some basics of the universal language. I know, for sure, that girls all throughout the country have gone mad while facing their television sets. Here in the dorm they were yelling unstoppably. I even heard of one in the other dorm who actually rolled on the floor. Say what?!

GD Acquaintance Party
July 9th, 2008 under Down the Drain · 8 Comments
This year’s theme for the program was ABS-CBN’s “The Singing Bee”. The hosts were last year’s Lakan and Lakambini (Mr. and Ms. Dorm) and quite similar to as how the show proceeds, they sang lines of songs leaving out some words blank to be answered by those whom they’ll point their mic to. Basically, they merely left a single word to be guessed.
They then played Wowowee’s “Hep-Hep-Hurray!” in order to choose the winner.
The presentations of the new residents followed subsequently.
- Annex – A dubbed drama with a “band” on the backdrop
- Lower Wing A – A multi-genre drama *winner
- Upper Wing B – A verse choir (was it?) with harmonic gestures › “If I weren’t a woman on this stage…”
- Lower Wing B – A dance number with “singers” lip-syncing › Clumsy by Fergie
- Boys’ Wing – A game show with Erap as the host plus Lobo and Dyosa advertisements (woot~! bias? Lol)
People were yelling and cheering all throughout. I’ve come to realize recently that there will always be something one can get — entertainment — in every acquaintance party. It only takes the guts to attend. The snack — hotdog and marshmallows on stick, sandwich, bihon, and iced tea — was not as, uh, enjoyable as the previous years, I’d say. *shrugs* Maybe the House Council should really be headed by a senior. It was only during last year (our junior year) in which no senior ran for candidacy. But anyway, I believe things will eventually go with the flow. Ah! I forgot to mention that instead of having dress codes per wing this year, we decided on “profession codes” instead. We were geeky nerds. The others were composed of the dark emos, Sunday dressers, executive forces, and model fashionistas. After the snack was a special number for one of the dormers who recently turned 18 — a little debut party, that is. After a few picture-takings, we left for Omp’s Corner to you-know-what. It was incompletely planned. We went back to the dorm minutes past midnight. I was glad to see that there were still people dancing in the bare lobby (heard the disco lights got broken). From then on, I never rested until 2AM. Got off the bed today at 11.

For <insert title here, no capitalization>, I survived without electricity…
I woke up Saturday morning and noticed a cold and dull atmosphere. I jumped into the conclusion that there’s a brownout and it was confirmed when I reached my UPS and it didn’t turn on after one switch. Frank, a typhoon at around 140 kph (according to one SMS I received that day), was devastating the island of Panay — the island where I’m in. Together with the absence of power was the absence of water. Usually, when there’s no electricity, there’s still water (that goes up to the second floor). But it was not the case. We had to struggle to acquire water because it was scheduled. Apparently the generator for it might have been under repair or something. I even experienced bathing in the rain in the inner court of our dormitory. It was a rather cool experience. The tandem of the two was not easy, especially the water that is a daily necessity. And the electricity you say? Argh!
Frank did not only cause the loss of electricity, for it drowned most of the below-sea-level Iloilo. I never thought that almost all places in this province are flooded when rain pushes itself too far. Many houses were reported to have been destroyed, roofs blown away, and people staying on top pf their houses. Aklan was also greatly inflicted. I wonder whether Boracay got hit too or it still remains as “beautiful” as what people perceive it to be. Then there’s this vessel that got turned upside down by the strong waves near Sibuyan Island in Romblon. The news says that the captain’s announcement to abandon ship came too late that only 56 among the more than 700 passengers survived. Such a disaster. I read in the newspaper today about a girl calling out for help because her parents and 5 siblings were aboard that ship and seemed to have not survived. Can you imagine that?
So what did we do the entire time? Well, everyone was playing “Killer’s Game” where you form a circle and look into each other’s eyes and one of you happens to be a killer and if he/she winks at you, you’re dead. I did not join because I thought that playing it without any proper consequence is lame. Then there was also this game “Seven, Seven, Bang!”. It’s actually fun, but still, I didn’t manage to join. And of course, there’s Tennis and Badminton every afternoon. People did everything they could do that can possibly entertain. Yesterday Zeny, our previous dorm president, was talking about the conspiracies of Filipino showbiz. It was surprisingly worth listening to. At night we went to Omp’s Corner and drank six bottles (liters) of Red Horse. Today two of my dormmates played BINGO. Yep, you read it right, only two of them. Nonetheless, it was amusing watching them. It was only past 2:00 this afternoon when the power was finally restored. No more dark and early nights, at last.

For three consecutive meetings on two different subjects our teacher’s been dismissing us 30 minutes earlier. Yeah… I think it’s actually good, or else we’ll all fall asleep by the end of the subject.
Life is just like a Tennis ball. It jumps up, and it jumps down. I still tend to play Badminton and Tennis alternately and the mood I’m ending up with also alternates. Satisfied, frustrated, satisfied, blah. In Tennis I’m getting more and more insecure each day.
The Biology freshman student I was referring to in Sports-Minded proves her Palarong Pambansa (national competition level) skills. In Badminton it’s a different matter though. I’ve been playing with my classmate John Paul and most of the time we just have fun in between our matches.
Last Tuesday we played against that research assistant from the BioSci Division and the teacher whom I’ve heard have played in the nationals before. We lost but going on as far as having a deciding set/game and a close score was satisfying enough. Tonight it was a match against JM and Duan — three matches which acted like three sets.
Then it was against Sir Faina and that girl from the Clovers. All the games were friendly tonight, and it was not as exhausting as the last ones.
On my way home I met my classmates Mary Glo and Schiren. Glo was asking me if she could borrow my Biology 20 notes (since she’s taking it up this semester) while Schiren told me that I looked more haggard than ever. I brushed my hair aback with my right hand and…
Me: Excuse me.
* ROFLOL3 *
Glo: Nelson, nawindang ako! (I was blown away!)
And oh, our teacher in Literature 2 (World Lit) is apparently cool. Rock ON!

Becoming a Drunkard

Yesterday was my friend Jobelle’s 19th birthday. I went to her place together with RJ. There I met some students from school namely Darren, Kevin, Ritchie, Charles, Bon-Bon, Raz, David, and Dux. Of course, the celebrant’s (sorry folks but I really don’t believe that “celebrator” is the right term) boardmates Jaycel, Roxanne, and Sahara. I was already super hungry when we started digging in. And as usual, I ended up almost not being able to move because of eating a lot.
The dessert was Buko-Pandan Salad (questionable according to them
) and it sure was sweet!
The cake ‘arrived’ late because it was bought at the city. It, too, was sweet and delicious-o.
A parlor game followed the dinner. It was the “Hep-Hep-Hurray!” from Wowowee. I never considered it as the most hilarious thing in the world but it turned out to be so! Even just in the trial where Jaycel was the one who made the mistake was so funny already.
Staying over their place for the night was out of my plan. But since they really bought something for us to drink and RJ and Charles (they’re present dormmates) have no longer any way of entering their dorm that late, I decided to stay. The bottle to heat up the night was a long-neck Tanduay (The rhum has a website!?). Many backed out, so I and Charles ended up finishing the only bottle. I don’t know why many dislike it, when there were softdrinks and water to push it down. Or it could be that I simply drink any hard drink that is served in front of me. Haha. But really, for the record, I have never experienced puking from drinking. It in fact easily puts me to sleep. It was already 30 minutes past 2 when I laid while the others were still singing their hearts out in the Magic Sing. I woke up about 5 times and saw that the others were still asleep. I didn’t time-check at all but on the last one I glimpsed on the outside and saw that there was already a pocketful of sunshine. I was awoken next by David’s voice. When I looked around, I realized that I was the only one who was still not up. RJ and Charles already left (Mga traidor!
) Walking back home to the dorm with David and Dux was sunny and serene.

The College of Arts and Sciences Opening Exercises was held today, the day of the Philippine Independence. It was just like the usual, I’d say. But I’m happy that our academic group was still able to prepare and become organized without the presence of an official governor. All the acad groups presented an intermission number. The Redbolts and Elektrons (where I belong) had a dance number (“Low” and “1, 2 Step”, respectively) while the Skimmers and Clovers had someone sing “If I Ain’t Got You” and “Umbrella” from their group. By afternoon, it was time for the freshmen orientation for each of these so-called groups that compose our college. I was the music operator for our group. And again, I was glad that things were carried on smoothly. And finally, after it, was the orientation for each of the courses that compose our group — Applied Mathematics, Chemistry, Computer Science, and Statistics. It has been a ‘tradition’ for us komsai (ComSci) to let the freshmen introduce themselves and state the reason of taking up the course. “Why Komsai?”, that is. It was amusing listening to some of the answers, for they were really stunning. The following are some of them:
- “Why Komsai? I will find my reason here.”
- “Computer makes money, and money makes the world go round.”
- “I believe in 10 years there will be a computer revolution in the Philippines and I want the graduates of the University of the Philippines to lead that revolution.” *nosebleed*
- “Gusto ko lang tapatan si Bill Gates.” (I want to compete against Bill Gates.) *sorry girl but you’ll still have to pass over me lol*
- “Because I love computer, I love science, I love computer science.” *flirt!*
We simply had to cheer after hearing those answers. And we, upperclassmen, also introduced ourselves and gave some pieces of advice. This year’s number of enrollees is the highest, ever since the course started here as well as for the entire college. They’re 41, and I do hope the number will stick until the day of their graduation. Talk about their number, we really need some serious manpower in the acquaintance party (I can’t wait!).
Six (or seven) of them are from Mindanao. When it ended, I stayed for a while in the lab in an attempt to aid the team who’s working on the computerized quiz bee for the upcoming IT Week in Iloilo. I realized that I no longer am capable of helping them since the codes are not mine in the first place. Ah, plus the mood swings too. So I just walked away and went to my guardian’s place. Unfortunately, they were not there.
But it’s okay, I just left the cake I brought to the person who was left to stay in the house.
I have been alternately playing Tennis and Badminton lately. There was this tough Badminton player whom I saw playing last Monday night and I just couldn’t help but get nervous and excited by the mere fact of playing against him. Well, tonight, I just did. I was together with my roommate in first year. We lost, but it’s worth the sweat. I only had two games for tonight. And in Tennis, well, there’s also a new player. It happens that she’s a girl, so no need to worry in that case.

Say It Again
June 8th, 2008 under Down the Drain · 10 Comments
Seeing the Tennis court unusable all throughout summer was somewhat disappointing. I planned to spend all my afternoons hitting some hard balls and what I find to see is a hard court under renovation. Marc, my classmate, even had two rackets. But now, the long wait is finally over. I played with Marc and RJ (an ex-dormmate) yesterday and it sure turned out pretty good.
My strokes seemed to have improved after some time of being unable to play. Neh, or it could be that it’s just what the usual thing is for me — only good at first. There was a freshman who was the younger brother of my dormmate who already graduated. We let him play and I’d say that a new player’s on the list for our team. Maybe I should give way. I’m not that that good anyway… (emo)
And one more thing, the dimensions and colors of the court seem to be misleading.
Last night was the Pinoy Big Brother Teen Edition Plus’ Big Night. I got the copies saved on my cellphone, just like the 1st season. I’ll be posting them both.
Season 1 (Saved: 23:57:13 03-06-2006)
279,390 (18.5%) – Clare
293,234 (19.4%) – Gerald
313,032 (20.7%) – Mikee
626,562 (41.4%) – Kim
Season 2
186,523 (10.91%) – Beauty
314,582 (18.39%) – Nicole
588,116 (34.39%) – Robi
620,934 (36.31%) – Ejay
The 1st season got me watching more. Perhaps because I was still a teen at that time too?
The Big Four was featured in ASAP today where three of them was accompanied by singers (I can’t believe two of them — Jay-R Siaboc and Nikki Gil — lip synced!) while the Big Winner was with season 1’s winner. Some of the songs sang got my attention, and I just had to download them, now that all music in my hard drive appears to have been inscribed magically in my head already. I found Elliot Yamin’s “One Word” (I’m not sure if it was really what Erik Santos sang though) and Marie Digby’s “Say It Again”. Her music video’s cute!
Edit: I woke up from a bad dream today. I was about to return a VCD to a music store in a mall by simply carrying it in my hand. I was then suddenly apprehended and was charged for shoplifting (or something like blaming me for bringing the disc in a way that looks like I stole it)!
Anyway, I’m trying to make myself super busy while classes still haven’t started yet. Updating my sites, that is. The last one I spent many hours with was our OJT project, which is now up in the right place. Damn, IE6 and its ancestors are really rightful of being vanquished.

So this is it. This is where the end, which I occasionally despise, is about to start.
The enrollment yesterday went smooth. It was as if during my first year, where I was the second to finish the whole process (after being kindly guided by a female classmate). I think I’m not really the actual second this time though, but the feeling’s all the same. I started the day by getting up around 10 minutes past the hour of 7 and going to school 50 minutes later, breakfast-less. Grabbing the copy of grades at our department and having my Temporary Form 5 signed by Ninong (that’s what I call one of our teachers who’s now also the department head
) didn’t take 2 minutes or so. Without the said form signed, one cannot even pass the first station. A big thanks to my classmate whom I hitched the printing of mine! While waiting for the actual forms to be printed, I talked to the parent of one of my high school schoolmates who are incoming freshmen. We’re just neighbors back home, but our families never got a chance to be acquainted with each other. When I introduced two of my classmates who’re from Aklan to her, I was fascinated to know that she used to live there and hearing here speak their dialect was another fascinating thing! Finally, our teacher came out of the “printing room” and called us to get our forms. The Cash Office was the next stop but I didn’t have money at hand yet so I had my ATM account checked. The next thing was I was already paying the amount of P4,541.50 and had my form stamped. I am a student already.
Unpacking my things at the dorm almost took forever. C’mon, why is it very hard for me all the time? I had, like, 5 boxes stored in the stock room. Of course, I no longer practice pulling all my things out. With all the things I currently have, it’s like I have no plans of going home at all.
Nonetheless, since this is supposed to be my last year, I thought of finally using some things I never or rarely used — my electric fan, mouse pad, Green Apple notebook, and Fuchsia pillow I received during the Christmas Party in the freshman dorm where I used to exist. I hope things will turn out fine in my new room. I still need to accomplish a few more things for the following days, like visiting my guardian and updating all the websites that I own. Summer (and OJT) of 2008 is legitimately over. Memories bookmarked, I will try to backup.

The Call
May 28th, 2008 under Down the Drain · 7 Comments
I think it was already past the hour of 1:00 when we watched “The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian” last night. I somehow had to struggle to stay awake. When it ended around 4 o’clock, the song at the final scenes greatly caught my attention. It sounded like Regina Spektor, and my dormmates agreed with me. This morning, at school, I confirmed that it was really her. I downloaded a copy and it’s currently playing inside my head over and over again. The melody’s pretty similar with “Samson”.
Regina Spektor – The Call
It started out as a feeling
Which then grew into a hope
Which then turned into a quiet thought
Which then turned into a quiet word
And then that word grew louder and louder
‘Til it was a battle cry
I’ll come back
When you call me
No need to say goodbye
Just because everything’s changing
Doesn’t mean it’s never been this way before
All you can do is try to know who your friends are
As you head off to the war
Pick a star on the dark horizon
And follow the light
You’ll come back when it’s over
No need to say goodbye
You’ll come back when it’s over
No need to say goodbye
Now we’re back to the beginning
It’s just a feeling and no one knows yet
But just because they can’t feel it too
Doesn’t mean that you have to forget
Let your memories grow stronger and stronger
‘Til they’re before your eyes
You’ll come back
When they call you
No need to say goodbye
You’ll come back
When they call you
No need to say goodbye
Lyrics from SongMeanings
If you want a copy, I uploaded the one I downloaded in RapidShare (second time so far). Hurry, while supply lasts. Download

Hey, would you check the time for me please? It’s almost 6:00 in the morning, right? Then get some sleep!
For three consecutive days now, I haven’t been getting some adequate sleep. The other two days I got myself to work on our project so that eventually I will be able to achieve 200 hours of work by the end of the week. So far (over the weekend), I’ve done 28.55, which leaves me at least 25 hours or so to complete the number of hours required. Today is a different thing though. Aside from the fact that I’m still wide awake 6 hours past midnight and I have to report to school by 8:30, I no longer have plans of sleeping at all, being too much afraid of waking up very late and not able to attend to my members. Err, actually, unlike the previous ‘nights’, I was drinking Generoso brandy with four dormmates while downloading PC games here. I didn’t know that life could be much more easier with DAP.
Maybe I’ll just bring with me a pillow and blanket in the lab’ratory about 2½ hours from now.
So I guess that’s it! Adios amigos!

I actually wanted to blog (badly) a few days back, but I just don’t feel like doing it. Tsk, happens all the time. ‘Nyway, I feel so happy right now because our project website already has a calendar plugin. In less than two weeks our on-the-job training will be over. Pause. Getting up after being awaken has become very hard for me these rainy summer days. I always end up telling my classmate “Why didn’t you wake me up?!” when in fact he did.
That’ll be all for now, I guess? See ya!

Another “Weeklong” Post + JSP Training
May 5th, 2008 under Down the Drain · 14 Comments
We had our first day of JSP (Java Server Pages) Training today. We were given this simple task of trying out some codes by copying them from this website and upload it to our own server. The HTML codes were hideous — capital letters in some tags and presence of deprecated ones. I made it more “good-looking” by transforming what has to be transformed. Then there’s this classmate that comes to me and asks if I was already done, because she would like to use the computer to upload her stuff to her own account. But then, it turns out that she merely changed the username (shrike) I was assigned to in the destination address in the command line!
scp /tmp/*.jsp shrike@10.51.1.32:/usr/share/webapps/shrike
Argh! I wanted to eat flesh at that instant. Yes, the effort I made was not total, but I think what she did was still simply penetrating. That’s the last fucking draw!

Last, last Sunday I was in Cebu to attend the graduation of my cousin. She’s a medicine student and this mere fact was the one that drove Mama to oblige me to go there. Such kind of graduations appear to be always held in a hotel you know.
I left Iloilo City on Saturday and for the first time in my life, I boarded the vessel ultimately last, with rain wetting my head, and me embracing a big box containing the CPU. Already aboard, water was flowing on the floor due to the rain so I had to move the box into my bed. By Sunday, when the vessel docked, I realized that it was merely beside the one my sisters took from Mindanao. So, from there on, we were together. The family of my cousin specifically her mother really loved to shop, as it seems. It was as if she never gets tired from all the walking (good thing there was always a snack, hehe). And her budget seemed unimaginable! Really, they bought a lot of things. The graduation was on Monday. The food was excellent. Not drinking any softdrink in the table at all was such a wise decision, else I was not able to taste all the dishes!

Last Thursday was Labor Day, a holiday. With nothing to do, my classmates thought of taking a little walk to town. We took the path at the so-called Hill70 (photo courtesy of Lairy) and found light at the GLOBE tower ultimately ending at the foot of the new administration building. I and Lairy pose for a picture in front of oble (The U.P. Oblation). Now we won’t graduate on time.
We ate Halo-Halo then. Back at the dorm my classmate Schiren gave me a customized birthday card. She always does it to other folks too but I was actually not expecting any. The more stimulating (oh, yea) part was, she drew this as the cover of the card! The banner was impossible to replicate, but everything else was as perfect.
P.S. To everyone who greeted me, I’ll give you your bottles the moment we meet.
Nah, in other words, thank you and CHEERS!
P.P.S. Laptop’s not yet a month old but has already undergone a Windows reinstallation.

Entering the Line of 2

I’m now two decades old. It’s…sad, isn’t it?

Edit: I had dinner with my classmates at Omp’s Corner. I ordered rice for everyone (Filipinos, you know), two sizzling sisigs, and buttered chicken. There were only 10 of us namely [me], Jennifer, Cindy Grace, Schiren, Lairy, John Paul, Marc Jones, Mary Glo, Rodrigo, and Kristine Joy. I was glad that the food turned out enough for everyone. Vail Michael, Mariane, Karl Edward, and Marianne came later. Our table was the one that started doing the videoke. Red Horse Grande came in next. We finished two bottles together with a pack of Chippy (the big one), a junk food. This is the first time I’m celebrating my birthday with a different (in a sense — and new too!) lot. I had so many laughing sessions. Total damage for the night was P657.50.

A Tricycle Scene
April 25th, 2008 under Down the Drain · 7 Comments
Sitting in the driver’s back, two of my classmates at the backseat and one in front, I waited for two other passengers for the tricycle to leave. Then, four other classmates arrive. No two of them is willing to leave the other two so they settled themselves in a different “trike”. Moments after…
Them: (referring to the driver) Manong, baydan nalang namon ang kulang. (Mister, we’ll just pay for the other two.)
Us: (immediately) Baydan man namon ‘nong! (We’ll pay the other two too!)
And so, off the two vehicles went. We lost the race.

Trouble Is

Found this in Dave’s blog. I find it pretty interesting so decided to put it up too.
Ladies, will you agree to this?

I was supposed to do this a few days back but I had troubles with uploading in my wp-uploads folder. From my PoV, there’s a slight mistake in one of the equations. Find it if you can.
And by the way, don’t kill me okay? I’m innocent, after all.
